logoWelcome to 1st Burghfield and Sulhamstead Scout Group

Our group is based in Burghfield Common and welcomes members from the surrounding villages from 6 years of age and older. We currently have over 300 members from 6-18 yrs who are supported by a team of 49 adult volunteers. Andy Hodgson and Stephen Langstaff are the Group Scout Leaders and work with their excellent leadership team to ensure first class Scouting is delivered to all. Mark Penston is the Group Chairman and leads the Executive Committee whos role is to ensure the Scout Group is provided for with meeting facilities and equipment and that the finances are managed efficiently.
We run a very active programme across the ages making full use of the facilities within our HQ and the surrounding countryside. There are plenty of opportunities for camping (even in January!), be it a Summer camp in the New Forest, Survival Camps in natural shelters, Group camp with all sections and family camps where parents and siblings get to experience Scouting – there is a camp for everyone. Throughout the year there are plenty of activities including fire station visits, canoeing, climbing, arts & crafts traditional scout skills, and that’s just during the weekly meetings.

Our Group welcomes boys’ and girls from the age of 6 into the following sections: Beavers (6-8) Cubs (8-10) Scouts (10-14) Explorers (14-18) and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Adults are also welcome to join us as leaders or helpers within the Scouting sections or helping alongside the Executive Committee in ensuring the group runs efficiently and effectively. No experience necessary and whether you can give an hour a month or a day a week all are welcome.

2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of the current group (it was started years earlier under a different name) and we will be marking this year with a number of celebrations and events. The main event will be the grand opening of our newly extended HQ in Hollybush Lane, Burghfield Common. The group have spent the last few years planning and raising funds for the project which is now underway. You can view the plans of the HQ on this site – if you or your business can help in any way please do get in touch.
